Bristol's nightclub Lakota is closing its doors.
The landmark venue will turn into a mixed-used development, as confirmed by the Bristol Post. The other two spots comprising the Stokes Croft Brewery site—Coroner's Court and Stokes Croft Beer Garden—will also close. The new complex will consist of office spaces and 54 residential suites.
The news was confirmed today by Bristol City Council's Development Control Committee, following a Save Lakota campaign that argued against the site's conversion. Over 8,000 people have signed the petition, urging the Council to consider the club's historic contributions to Bristol nightlife.
Talks of the club's possible closure have been brewing since 2018, when the Burgess family expressed it was time to "explore new opportunities."
Lakota is a Bristol nightclub that was a pivotal site for the dance music world in the '90s. Carl Cox, Danny Rampling, Sasha and John Digweed are among the DJs that have played there.
