- The joint release from Incidental Music and Conatala is out in mid-May.
Pale Cocoon's rare 1984 cassette, 繭 (MAYU), will be released on vinyl in May via Incidental Music/Conatala.
The cult favourite album is the brainchild of Tsuyoshi Kawabata, who had a vision of springing forth from a cocoon while he was writing music in his hometown, Toyama, Japan. Starting out on a four-track recorder, he'd eventually record in a larger studio with the help of other acts on the Pafe Record roster, including Funeral Party and Virgin Mayonnaise.
The singular result is a combination of synths, drum machines and fanciful guitars reminiscent of Woo, Cluster, Penguin Café Orchestra and The Durutti Column, whom Pale Cocoon opened for in Japan.
Portland's Incidental Music and Tokyo's Conatala have joined forces for the vinyl release. Both stores also have launched record shops in their respective cities—Tone Poem in Portland and Pianola Records in Tokyo.
