  • Lorenzo Senni will release a new album on Warp next month. Scacco Matto, which means "checkmate" in Italian, is a continuation of Senni's "pointillistic" style, according to the press release. The track "Canone Infinito" shares a name with his site-specific installation designed to comfort people in the intensive care unit of the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo. The album artwork is an image by American photographer John Divola titled Zuma #30. "There's a constant 'opponent' within the tracks, like I was playing a chess game with myself," Senni says. "I was really trying to bring the music to a certain place and then switch advantageously to another approach. I wanted to see how far I could push the ideas I've been developing since [2012's] Quantum Jelly, and in order to do that, I needed to force self-imposed limits and rules." This is Senni's fifth album, following 2014's Superimpositions, which was released on Boomkat Editions. In 2018, he released two records on Warp: XAllegroX / The Shape Of RemixXxes To Come, and the soundtrack to the 2016 film The Challenge with Francesco Fantini.
