  • Korg is releasing a new synth called wavestate. The wavestate expands ideas from sample-based digital synthesisers from the '80s and '90s with modern sequencing techniques. Like the Korg Wavestation, it uses the Prophet VS's vector synthesis approach, which lets you crossfade between multiple voices to build evolving patches. The original Wavestation also added wave sequencing to the mix, allowing users to simultaneously sequence duration, the sample and pitch. The new wavestate takes this a step further by decoupling wave-sequenced rhythms, sounds and melody information, leading to more complex, varied sequences. You can also sequence more parameters, modulate the start and end points, and randomise the step order. The Prophet VS-style joystick is on board for fading between voices, plus there are eight programmable modulation knobs for routing variation around the synth. A choice of filters is also available, including models from Korg's Polysix and MS20 synths, along with an expansive range of on-board effects. Learn more about the feature set via the Korg website. The wavestate is out this month for $799.99. Watch a promo video for the wavestate.
