  • Ryuichi Sakamoto's debut solo album, Thousands Knives of..., will get a rerelease on CD and LP this November. At the time, Sakamoto was an in-demand session musician who had just worked on Haruomi Hosono's Paraiso LP, alongside Yukihiro Takahashi. Hosono would invite both musicians to form Yellow Magic Orchestra, but first, Sakamoto would record Thousand Knives Of... in April 1978. Spanning six tracks, the opening, title cut includes a recitation of the Mao Zedong poem Jinggang Mountain with other tracks like "Plastic Bamboo" and "The End of Asia" showcasing Sakamoto's unique take on synth pop. The forthcoming reissue will feature a new introduction by Paul Browler. The original tapes were remastered by producer and engineer Seigen Ono. Landing on Wewantsounds, this will be the first time the album is reissued on vinyl outside of Japan, save a low-key release in 1982.
