- The soundtrack will come out via Milan Records in July.
The Haxan Cloak has composed the soundtrack for Ari Aster's forthcoming movie Midsommar.
Midsommar tells the story of a struggling American couple who go on vacation to rural Sweden, where they are roped into violent pagan rituals. Director Ari Aster reportedly wrote the script for the film exclusively while listening to Krlic's work and in turn asked Krlic to score the film.
In addition to the music that plays during the film, Krlic also scored music that exists in the movie itself, including what characters sing and play during the rituals. Krlic and Aster came up with a bespoke language for the songs and used traditional Nordic instruments like the hurdy-gurdy and key harp to record. The soundtrack release will come via Milan Records.
Krlic has scored a number of films and television shows in the past, including Michael Mann's Blackhat (with Atticus Ross). He's also worked with Björk and the Body, and released solo music on Tri Angle Records, most recently 2013's Excavation album.
