  • Andrew Hogge, AKA Lovefingers, is marking the tenth anniversary of Fingertracks with a new compilation. Fingertracks Vol. 1 collects highlights from the Lovefingers.org series, where Hogge uploaded one song every day for almost five years, starting in 2006 and ending on New Year's Day 2010. The press release describes the compilation as "a snapshot of aural delights that were on offer to those of the leftfield persuasion... a lovingly selected handful of records that re-introduce the story of Andrew's most influential and essential music resource." At its height, the Fingertracks series attracted up to 100,000 visitors daily. "I'm a collector, and I spent five years assembling the 1000 tracks on Lovefingers.org, and while the site meant a lot to so many people, it's sitting there now since 2010 as a moratorium," Hogge told Resident Advisor. "There's a whole generation that I think would dig it but perhaps missed out while it was still active. These compilations will be an edited physical archive (with exciting additions here and there) for anyone who wants to engage in a personal musical dialogue. I also felt it's time to incorporate a little more of 'where we came from' into the ESP Institute as we move forward into another decade." "I never considered Lovefingers.org a 'blog,'" he adds. "There was no writing or opinions, the music always spoke for itself. It was more of a giant mix that grew very slowly—a living chronicle. Now that information is digested so freely and rapidly, the '00s feel like a nice moment in time when 'the hunt' meant a lot to people, and there was this transitional tool that built a sense of community based on the collective excitement of discovery. Now the music discovers you, you almost have to hide from it." Hogge says that he's aiming for ten volumes of the Fingertracks compilations. This first instalment features cuts from Lifetones, Nuno Canavarro, Electronic System, Eddie Callahan and more. It's due out on June 21st via Hogge's label ESP Institute. Listen to Lifetones' "Good Side."
