  • Unsound Festival has confirmed this year's theme: "Solidarity." The eight-day event, which returns to Kraków for its 17th edition in October, will aim to explore and dissect what notions of solidarity, kinship, community and resistance mean in 2019. It'll confront these ideas through the usual mix of musical performances, film screenings, workshops, talks, reading groups and installations. Here are some of the questions posed. "With ecological, economic and democratic systems in crisis, how do we fight isolation and distraction, to collectively and positively imagine possible futures and shared purpose?" "Are the platforms fostered by corporations ever really communities—and how are forms of solidarity commodified and rendered impotent?" "Does the present moment demand colour and light in response to the bleak, unstable reality around us?" In keeping with the theme, Unsound is inviting the public to contribute to this year's discourse programme. Applicants who wish to suggest ideas should send their concept and links on a single page to this email address. The festival stresses that musical or installation ideas will not be considered. Unsound 2019 will run from October 6th through 13th across various venues in Kraków. The first round of names will be revealed next month. Read our five key performances review of Unsound 2018.
