  • Mute is releasing a set of over 50 covers of John Cage's composition 4'33. STUM433, which is part of Mute's ongoing MUTE 4.0 (1978 > TOMORROW) retrospective celebration, features core Mute artists offering their own interpretations of Cage's landmark work. 4'33 instructs performers to not play their instruments for the entire duration of the piece. Each contributing artist—which includes Depeche Mode, Moby, Chris Liebing, Ben Frost, Nitzer Ebb, ADULT., Einstürzende Neubauten, Pole, Laibach and more—has also made a video to go with their interpretation. Profits from the release will go towards the British Tinnitus Association and Music Minds Matter, in honour of Inspiral Carpets founder Craig Gill, who suffered anxiety and depression due to his struggle with tinnitus. For the full list of artists, check out Mute's website. Watch the first video, from Laibach.
Mute will release STUMM433 in April 2019.
