  • Matthew Herbert's Brexit Big Band project is releasing an album called The State Between Us. Due out March 29th on Accidental, the 16-track release is timed to coincide with the day the United Kingdom is planning to leave the European Union. The album represents "a journey on foot across Great Britain" by lacing together pieces of music with location recordings, including the sounds of a swimmer crossing the English channel, a Ford Fiesta being disassembled and a deep fried trumpet. Over 1000 musicians and writers contributed to the record, including No Wave pioneer Arto Lindsay and British playwright Caryl Churchill. The group is billed collectively as the Great Britain and Gibraltar European Union Membership Referendum Big Band. The album follows a reissue campaign on Accidental Jnr that made available Herbert's essential Parts series for the first time since the late '90s. Watch a trailer for the record.
