  • The author Irvine Welsh wants to release a techno album. The Edinburgh-born writer, best known for the 1996 novel Trainspotting, aims to bring fun and humour to dance music, saying that he considers the LP a "counterblast" to joyless young artists. He's even played some of the tunes during a tour for his latest book, Dead Men's Trousers, a novel that follows Mark Renton, from Trainspotting, and his career running a DJ management company. "Hopefully people are going to jump around and have a bop," he said. "But you're not going to have your ears bleeding." The 60-year-old Welsh has written extensively about the themes surrounding clubbing, once telling Mixmag that "I wouldn't be a writer if it hadn't been for acid house." There's no word on his album's release date.
