  • Kasra Mowlavi, the founder of Critical Music, is releasing his debut EP. Though the London-based artist has been at the helm of the drum & bass label for 16 years, he's never released a full solo record until now. (He's appeared on splits and collaborated with other artists in the past.) A press release describes the four tracks on Ski Mask as "rolling low end" and says that it "marks the start of a new phase" for Mowlavi to focus on production in addition to DJing. "I suppose it's taken me so long because I've put so much of my energy into building the label and developing my DJ career," Mowlavi tells Resident Advisor. "Production always felt like something I needed to do with someone else to make sure we could get the project finished. A lot of this came down to a lack of confidence as well as technical ability." "I was always writing sketches and I found myself a few months back with some demos I really liked," he adds. "I put energy into learning some new tricks and getting them finished." Listen to "Miso."
Tracklist 01. Ski Mask 02. Miso 03. Alburz 04. From The Inside Out Critical Music will release Ski Mask on October 12th, 2018.
