  • Solomun apologized for inadvertently DJing a track on Saturday in Turin, Italy that included a sample of the adhan, Islam's call to prayer. Describing his "big mistake" in a post on Facebook, the globe-trotting DJ and Diynamic label co-founder says he was playing Kappa Futur Festival when he mixed in a recently acquired demo with the adhan sample. He says he didn't notice the sample when previewing the track beforehand, but "sensed that something was off" when he played it at the festival: "I had a very odd feeling about the situation, even though I did not understand the language." "With all my heart I want to apologize for hurting religious feelings," Solomun writes. "As I am a religious person myself, nothing could be further from my intentions. I am deeply ashamed that this has happened... Music is there to connect people, and this is what it has always been for me... I am devastated and full of sorrow that I did not achieve this last Saturday." UK techno DJ Dax J was handed a one-year jail sentence (which he did not serve) for playing a remix of the call to prayer while in Tunisia last year. Beirut nightclub The Gärten was shut down in May after Acid Pauli played a song that sampled Quran versus. Due to the sensitive nature of this story, the comments on this news piece are locked.
