- The Japanese producer's latest project is also his Field Records debut.
ENA's next album is a soundtrack for a new documentary called Bridge, which will get a release on Field Records in June.
Besides being his first original soundtrack, Bridge marks the first appearance on Amsterdam label Field for Yu Asaeda, a Japanese producer known for an increasingly abstract mix of ambient, drum & bass, dub and techno music. The documentary itself, directed by Kenta Iwamoto (who Asaeda has previously worked with), highlights the recently reconstructed Dejima Bridge in Nagasaki, which linked the city to a Dutch trading post on a small island from the 1640s to the 1850s. For many years, the bridge was Japan's only point of contact with the Western world.
Inspired by the film, Asaeda crafted ten short pieces, resulting in an album that Field says "mixes human emotions with a mechanical sense of industry."
Asaeda's music as ENA has previously appeared on the Samurai and Horo label groups, along with Latency, Resident Advisor's recent label of the month. In 2016, he teamed up with Felix K for a double-pack on Hidden Hawaii.
