Brendon Whitney, the producer and DJ otherwise known as Alias, has died this week at age 41.
Whitney, who suffered a heart attack on March 30th, was a founding member of Anticon—an American collective and label that became a driving force in independent hip-hop in the late '90s and 2000s. He made records under the name Alias and had his hand in a number of other projects, including the Anticon group Deep Puddle Dynamics. His most recent Alias LP, Pitch Black Prism, came out in 2014.
