Well-known London music photographer Sarah Ginn is quitting the industry due to persistent "misogyny and bullying."
In a note posted to Twitter last night, Ginn says that she has been forced to endure blatant sexism for years, treatment that is now causing her to walk away from music entirely. "The misogyny and bullying I have had to endure over the last three years should not be something that anyone has to go through," she said. "It doesn't matter what you achieve if people objectify you as fair game because you are backstage. Am I not a person? Do you think that my body is the only thing to me? Quite frankly I would rather talk about snares and bass lines."
Ginn is perhaps best known for her work as resident photographer at London club fabric, though she's also shot for Red Bull Music Academy, Ram Records, Swamp 81, Arcadia, Defected Records and XLR8R. In July of 2014, she hosted her debut exhibition at Copeland Gallery in Peckham.
Ginn says she will shoot a few more nights, including fabric's 18th birthday, before pursuing corporate work. Read her note in full.
