- More than 50 students say the school never held the classes they paid for.
Electronic music production and DJ school Dubspot has been accused of fraud by students and teachers.
The internationally-known school, with campuses in New York and LA, has been accused by over 50 of its students of failing to provide classes that were paid for. As Thump reports, classes were, allegedly, often rescheduled or never scheduled to begin with, and when students showed up, teachers refused to teach because they had not been paid yet.
Testimonials come from students who traveled to the US and even obtained student visas to attend Dubspot, spending upwards of $4000 in tuition. One Austrian student claimed she never received an official starting date, and when she went to investigate the school herself it "was a mess... [with] hardly any equipment."
Though Dubspot has since closed its two campuses without announcement or explanation, the school was reportedly collecting fees and accepting admissions until at least April of this year.
Former employees reported erratic behaviour from CEO Dan Giove, and had apparently warned him before opening the LA branch in 2014 that there would not be enough funds.
Thump also reports potential legal action against the school, and that a few smaller cases have already been won in court.
