  • The prime suspect in the New Year's Eve nightclub shooting in Istanbul has been arrested. Abdulkadir Masharipov, an Uzbek national, is suspected of open firing in the middle of New Year's Eve celebrations at Reina nightclub in an upscale area of Istanbul. 39 people were killed in the shooting, which was deemed a terror attack by Turkish authorities, who later released a photo and security camera footage of the suspect. Masharipov was apprehended along with another man (a Kyrgyz national) and three women, Masharipov's four year-old son was placed in protective custody, as The Guardian reports. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, calling it revenge for Turkish intervention in Syria.
