  • WeTransfer will roll out a streaming player next week. According to a report in Bloomberg, the Dutch file transfer platform isn't looking to monetize its new music streaming feature but instead use the exclusive tracks and videos they recruit to drive traffic, raise awareness and generally do something that competitors like Dropbox aren't. Maarten Kadiks, a WeTransfer marketing executive quoted in the Bloomberg piece, says the feature will bring WeTransfer in line with the likes of SoundCloud, though they'll be competing with streaming music titans like Apple and Spotify for exclusives. "The service can become one of the most popular, alternative digital distribution channels for music content," Kadiks says. WeTransfer currently boasts 85 million users per month, and a recent infusion of venture capital valued the company at more than $100 million.
