- The cult-favourite Japanese record will be available through Palto Flats next month.
Mariah's Utakata No Hibi will be reissued by Palto Flats on September 18th.
The record was originally released on Better Days in 1983, and has experienced a slight revival mainly due to its beguiling single "Shinzo No Tobira." Originally making its way into the bags of DJs via diggers like Organic Music boss Chee Shimizu, that track was included on Swiss DJ Lexx's entry in Claremont 56's Originals series and wrapped up Lena Willikens' RA Podcast. Recently, Tako Reyenga discussed the album's writer/producer, Yasuaki Shimizu, in a Playing Favourites feature.
Shimizu also worked with Yellow Magic Orchestra members Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono, the latter of whom's early-'80s work has also been repressed as of late. NYC-based Palto Flats calls Utakata No Hibi "a masterful studio production of Japanese folk and pop idioms filtered through a chamber disco, new wave and synth production." The LP is fully licensed by Columbia Japan as well as Shimizu, has been remastered by Dubplates and Mastering and includes English translations of the LP's lyrics as well as additional artwork by the original jacket artist, Yla Okudaira.
