- From VHS to 12-inch to reel-to-reel, Jackson's next album comprises 12 tracks published in 12 different formats.
Trevor Jackson will release an album called F O R M A T that makes use of 12 different formats.
Due for release in February 2015 via The Vinyl Factory, F O R M A T will initially be issued as a limited edition package spread across 12 different formats, with each format holding one track. The formats used are: 12-inch, 10-inch and 7-inch vinyl, CD, mini CD, cassette, USB, VHS, MiniDisc, DAT, 8-track and reel-to-reel. Gatefold vinyl and digital versions following at a later date.
"Every copy of a physical recording is different, a real object that has its own little story, a one of a kind, personalised by the effort you put in to purchase it, each time you touch it, and the unique ritual that goes along with playing it," says Jackson. "I want the people who purchase these items to feel special; they will be the only ones who possess these tracks in any form at that time. The fact culturally everything's become so convenient and easily accessible whilst in the process totally disposable is an important subject i needed to address with this project."
Music-wise, Jackson has selected (and re-edited) material from his pool of around 150 unreleased tunes from the past 15 years—expect a mix of house, techno, new wave, Italo and experimental cuts. There will be an installation for F O R M A T at The Vinyl Factory in Soho in early 2015.
