- The Sonic Aesthetic will launch with an EP from label owner Mark Barrott.
International Feel has announced details of a new offshoot called The Sonic Aesthetic.
The Sonic Aesthetic is already the name of label boss Mark Barrott's production alias, which debuted on International Feel earlier this year with Tales From The Nocturn (he also has a blog of the same name). The new label will launch with an EP from Barrott called New Districts. The producer reeled off a number of inspirations for the record, including Steve Reich, Allen Ginsberg, Pye Corner Audio and record labels like Ghost Box Recordings and L.I.E.S.
"For me right now it's all about the Ginsberg philosophy-First Idea/Best Idea," Barrott explains. "It's about having an idea and executing it as quickly as possible to maintain the freshness. My studio setup [and] mindset now reflects that approach and I wanted a new release mechanism that reflects that too, hence the separate identity. I love the intricacy and detail of a well-packaged International Feel release, but The Sonic Aesthetic is about a looser feel and a quicker route to my own musical consciousness."
