The annual Sydney music, lights and ideas festival will feature Brazilian producer Amon Tobin among a diverse cast of other artists.
The Sydney Opera House have announced the program for Vivid Sydney 2012, which will begin in the last week of May.
Having been curated in the past by people like Brian Eno, Lou Reed and Modular Recordings founder Stephen Pavlovic, the ten-day festival has this year been placed in the hands of the Opera House's programming team led by Fergus Linehan, the Head of Contemporary Music. Coupled with Vivid's trademark light and projection installations, including a dazzling display covering the sails of the Opera House each night, there will be a wide range of musical events taking place in the venue's many halls and throughout the city.
Brazilian producer Amon Tobin will bring his massive "ISAM" show to Australia, which incorporates a 7.5 metre, 3 tonne cubic installation which is used as a moving screen to display projections, with Tobin placed in the centre of the construction. Experimental group PVT will return to their town of origin to play in the Opera Theatre, giving crowds a preview of their forthcoming album, due out later this year on Warp Records, while LCD Soundsystem's "Shut Up And Play The Hits" documentary will have its debut Australian screening in the Concert Hall.
Sydney music will also be generously represented. Young electronic trio Seekae are set to play the festival's third night, local label Future Classic are hosting a party in The Studio, and Goodgod's Dancetaria will be showcasing a range of acts over three nights in conjunction with the festival. The remainder of the lineup includes London indie group Florence + the Machine, a collaboration between New Yorkers Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and Surfjan Stevens, a Modular night headlined by Tom Vek, the Australian debut of Janelle Monáe and Archandroid Orchestra, and a show with Melbourne band The Temper Trap.
The festival will run from May 25th until June 3rd.
