- The Robsoul Recordings founder gets busy with the MPC3000 (again) on the upcoming LP.
French DJ and producer Phil Weeks will release a new album next month called Raw Instrumental.
The record comes barely a year after Weeks' last LP, Love Affair, which included one of the most successful singles of his career, "All Day Every Day" (easy to recognize by Weeks' baritone muttering). Much like that record, Raw Instrumental is the fruit of his recent obsession with the Akai MPC3000, an old school sampler that's common among hip-hop artists but that Weeks puts to use in his floor-friendly house productions. "I was also inspired and influenced by classic movies and used samples to create a full atmosphere for home listening," he says. "The album includes samples from The Godfather, How High, Friday and Foxy Brown."
Raw Instrumental will be available as a double-LP and a digital download. Aside from four tracks that came out on a vinyl sampler earlier this month, all of the songs are previously unreleased. Naturally, the album will come out on Weeks' label, Robsoul Recordings.
