- Due for release on Mule Musiq, Uwe Schmidt and Tobias Freund's next LP documents a spontaneous live set in a Nigaata hotel lobby.
This May, Mule Musiq will release a collaborative album by Tobias Freund and Atom TM (AKA Uwe Schmidt), entitled Grand Blue.
Grand Blue is a live album, but definitely not in the conventional sense. It was allegedly recorded on two pianos in the lobby of the Grand Blue Hotel in Nigaata, Japan, with no rehearsing or pre-planning whatsoever: the two artists were just drinking sake and messing around. Though their was no intention to make an album at that point, a flash-recorder on a nearby chair captured the entire thing, including the murmured conversations of other hotel guests coming in and out of the room.
Freund and Schmidt have collaborated plenty of times in the past, appearing on each other's records and playing in the group Odd Machine with Ricardo Villalobos, but Grand Blue will be their first full album together. It will be available digitally and on CD.
