The new Berlin party at Pigalle Bar shows DJs steering clear of club music.
A new Berlin party, Off The Shelf, is set to take place every Thursday at Kreuzkoelln venue Pigalle Bar.
The concept is simple: ask Berlin DJs to play alternative sets in an intimate environment. The party began a couple of Thursdays ago with Exercise One and Deadbeat reaching to the back of their crates, and has since welcomed Dumb Unit's Jeremy P Caulfield, who put together a set comprised of "film scores, ambient, post-rock, spaghetti westerns & hip-hop."
This Thursday is shaping up nicely as well: Canadian artists Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, Deadbeat, Mike Shannon and The Mole will all get behind the decks, with the latter two celebrating their birthdays. Next week will feature Nick Höppner playing hip-hop, UK garage and 2-step, while Peter Van Hoesen and Exercise One explore "from sixties garage to post punk/EBM" on March 17th. More parties are scheduled through the beginning of May.
