- The LA-based DJ's next artist album features original tracks alongside covers of house classics.
West Coast veteran DJ Dan is set to release Future Retro, an album that combines original productions and covers of classic house tracks.
A native of Olympia, Washington, Dan appeared on LA's burgeoning rave scene back in 1991 and has since become a perennial figure in the city's club world. Thanks to his ever-evolving style of DJing, he's stayed in demand nearly two decades after his debut, landing the #5 spot in DJ Mag's Top 100 poll as recently as 2006. On Future Retro, he aims to "celebrate 20 years in the business" by showcasing some of his new productions alongside reinterpretations of the songs that inspired him early on. The first half of the album shows Dan putting a contemporary spin on classics like Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It," Midnight Star's "Operator" and Frankie Knuckles' "Baby Wants to Ride," while the second presents some of his new original tunes. Check out the video below to hear samples from the album, along with Dan's explanation of the concept.
