- The Japanese producer's Space In Space album will be the imprint's first venture into the world of beatsmithery.
Olive Oil will be the first producer to release hip-hop on the Mule Musiq label.
Though Olive Oil has thus far had more of an impact in Japan than abroad, he's been steadily building up his reputation since the early '00s, even getting his "Pianity" track played on Gilles Peterson's BBC Radio show. The producer favours a fluid broken sound that draws comparisons to the work of Flying Lotus, but his atmosphere is slightly more serene, with plenty of old jazz samples peppered throughout his tracks.
Entitled Space in Space, Oil's Mule debut cycles through a wide array of styles, ranging from smooth and organic to glitchy and abstract. The album will come in a double CD package, with one disc containing a mixed edition of the album (and a video for the "Black Sky Wiz" track), and the second featuring unmixed versions of the same material, plus one exclusive cut in the form of "But No Enough."
