Munich's Harry Klein club will launch a vinyl label in January.
Over the last six years, the venue has become the city's premier nightspot for clubbers looking for their techno fix, hosting showcases from the likes of Ostgut Ton, Compost, Mobilee, Vakant and more on a semi-regular basis. It has already expanded its operations into the podcast, netlabel and booking agency spheres, but its next step will be to venture into the realm of physical releases. The first outing on Harry Klein come from brothers Dario and Marco Zenker, who are both resident DJs at the club. Expect a slice of euphoric techno from the former, and retro-inclined tech-house from latter when the record drops next month.
We spoke to Harry Klein's booker, Peter Fleming, about the plans for the imprint.
What artists do you have coming up on the label?
Dario Zenker, Marco Zenker, Ana, Benna, Julietta, kid.chic & Sissi, if you ask for music. But we also will offer visual clips and so there are also VJ's which will work on the label: Betty Mü, Mo, Heiligenblut, Bloom, Highflyer, Blink and remove, Kaundown, Pixelwolke, Salzderhelden, Zava (all residents from the club Harry Klein).
Was there any particular reason behind starting the vinyl imprint?
We still love vinyl, and we know some others do too, so the vinyl is the collector and vinyl lover option. Also we liked the idea to produce covers.
Will it just host material from the Harry Klein residents, or will you be looking further afield for tracks to put out?
First of all the music & visuals will be from the Harry Klein residents only. But of course we will not be very strict and we will see what the future brings. We have a lot of artist friends, and why shouldn't there be someone else?
Who is responsible for the A&R of the label?
It is the collective of the residents and me.
Does the label have any more commercial mixes in the pipeline?
We are not thinking about this. We work very successfully with our iTunes Podcast, and we think that mixes are not able to sell very well if you are not a very big name.
