- The young Glaswegian producer issues his debut album via Soma Records later this year.
Harvey McKay will release his debut full-length in December.
McKay is one of the latest young talents to emerge from the Glaswegian club scene, securing a not-entirely-legal residency at the city's Tin Pan Alley club at the age of sixteen before turning his hand to his own productions. Using a set-up comprising of Logic, Cubase, Ableton, Reason and a Moog synthesiser, McKay has created a sound that takes influence from tech house, IDM and techno, with fellow Glaswegians Slam taking note after his debut release on Jon Virtue's Artificial Silence imprint.
The duo have since been nurturing the producer in preparation for his debut album, which highlights a much broader sonic flare than was apparent on his previous 12-inches. Entitled Machine Make Noise, the record ranges from growling sub-heavy techno through to snare-cracking house and dubby electronica, all with a clean and modern production sheen. With most tracks clocking in at under five minutes (including edits of three previously released tracks), it seems like McKay made sure that Machine Make Noise is structured suitably for the CD format, taking care to break up the more rowdy club tracks with shorter ambient pieces.
