Camden's The Lock Tavern to change ownership

- The London bar hosted everyone from Adele to James Murphy over its 14-year run.
- London institution The Lock Tavern will close at the end of August, before reopening under new ownership. The low-key Camden spot "was the definitive 'DJ Bar' in a time before every bar was a DJ bar," says Casper Clark, who was The Lock Tavern's booker between 2006 and 2011. The likes of James Murphy, Erol Alkan, Jon Hopkins, Jamie xx and Andrew Weatherall played The Lock during its heyday, as did Amy Winehouse, Adele and Franz Ferdinand. Time Out reported the venue has been sold for a multi-million pound sum. The final party at The Lock Tavern will be a Blogger's Delight event on Monday, August 27th, with Casper Clark, Nadia Ksaiba, Matt Walsh and some unannounced guests. Update: In a Facebook statement this week, The Lock Tavern said the venue "will return, but in what guise we're not quite sure. The new owners will have their own ideas no doubt. What we do know is that it'll no longer be programmed by LNZRT who have been in charge of the bookings, promotion, design and marketing for the past 16 years." The Lock Tavern's new owners, East London Pub Co., said: "The Lock Tavern has a fantastic history and we are looking forward to breathing new life into this Camden institution and honouring its musical heritage. The pub has been around for decades and host to some of the UK's best up-and-coming and established talent, which is why we want to ensure music remains at the heart of this venue." The bar will close on August 29th and 30th, before reopening under new ownership on August 31st.
