  • An album from Damon Wild, called Cosmic Path, is on the way via Function's Infrastructure label. Cosmic Path is the first full-length from Wild since Downtown Worlds back in 2004. It's also his first proper solo release on Infrastructure, though he and fellow US techno veteran Function, AKA Dave Sumner, have had an on-and-off connection through music since 1991. The new LP establishes what the two artists call "the cosmic connection." It'll feature 15 tracks on the CD version, and 11 on double-vinyl. Only one of them has been released before: "Space Race," a 1998 track Wild put on his own Synewave label using the alias Nitevision. Sumner, who's also crafted a Function edit for the vinyl release, says "Space Race" "was inspired by the view I had from my [Manhattan] studio on the 15th floor, overlooking Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building. Damon was coming by nearly every day. I'll never forget the day he came by after making it and playing it as we looked out over the city." Sumner's earliest Function material came out on Synewave in the latter half of the '90s, when both artists were living in New York. (Much of that Synewave output is featured on the recent Function retrospective project on A-TON, and Function returned to the label last month for a remix on Wild's Subtractive Synthesis IX 12-inch.) The album is another return of sorts for Infrastructure, which Sumner relaunched in 2014 with help from Ed Davenport (AKA Inland), but which has been silent for nearly a year. "Now I'm starting things again," Sumner says, "But the release schedule will likely be irregular." Listen to samples for Cosmic Path.
