  • Dave Smith Instruments has a new synthesiser. The Rev 2 expands on the popular Prophet 08 analogue polysynth, which was released a decade ago just before analogue products came back into vogue. The Rev 2 has the same voice and Curtis filter as the Prophet 08 but is more affordable and features greater synthesis capabilities. A total of 16 voices greatly expands the potential complexity of stacked patches and allows users to split sounds across the keyboard. All waveshapes can now be modulated while effects can be set on individual layers of a patch when voices are stacked or split. The modulation matrix has doubled in size, comprising eight slots and numerous modulation sources and destinations. A polyphonic step-sequencer allows users to program up to six notes on a single step and can also be used as a modulation source. In split and stack modes, individual sequences can be assigned to different layers in a patch. A cheaper, 8-voice version will also be available and owners of the Prophet 08 will be able to download their patches to the Rev 2. Watch a promo video for the REV 2.
