- The 17-track set, due out in February, features songs recorded between 1978 and 1992.
Amsterdam label Music From Memory has revealed full details for its upcoming compilation of outré Brazilian music.
Outro Tempo: Electronic And Contemporary Music From Brazil, 1978-1992, first announced in June, draws from material made around the time that Brazil's military dictatorship ended and the country was transitioning to democracy. With censorship receding, new forms of expression came from artists who "embraced traditionally shunned electronic production methods and infused their music with elements of ambient, jazz-fusion and minimalism."
Described as "a trip to the heart of the Amazon rainforest"—the period also saw growing concern over deforestation in the Amazon—Outro Tempo comprises 17 tracks in all, with rare and obscure cuts from the likes of Priscilla Ermel, Andréa Daltro, Fernando Falcão, Marco Bosco and Anno Luz. John Gómez curated the set and wrote its liner notes, while Alice Quaresma contributed artwork. The compilation will arrive first on double vinyl, in February, before double CD and digital packages come out in the spring.
Music From Memory, who grabbed the #7 spot on our top labels of 2016 for the second year in a row, recently uploaded to YouTube Ermel's nearly 16 minute-long track "Corpo De Vento."
