  • The first TUFFEST happens in Seattle's Judkins Park on July 9th. The new one-day affair is the largest undertaking to date by TUF, an "intersectional female, non-binary and trans collective" with headquarters in Seattle. The group (pictured right), is made of northwest artists like Raica, bb.yu and Natasha Kmeto, and has the stated goal of "uplifting, expanding, and celebrating the female, non-binary and trans electronic music community." The daytime portion of TUF's first festival is free, open to the public and funded by the City of Seattle's Office of Arts & Culture. Elysia Crampton, the prolific experimental musician who self-describes as a "transevangelist," is on headlining duties. Also on the daytime bill is Patricia Hall, of the Captured Tracks synth pop duo Soft Metals, and Kaori Suzuki, who has a forthcoming release coming through leading local imprint Further Records. The afterparty, TUFFEST Til' Dawn, features Cologne selector Lena Willikens and Umfang, the co-founder of Discwoman, a rising collective whose goals are aligned with TUF's. The afterparty happens at a TBA location. Last fall, Maya Kalev spoke with Elysia Crampton for our Breaking Through feature. Check out the profile here.
