- The six-track soundtrack for Shrine is available now.
Forest Swords has scored a dance piece called Shrine.
The soundtrack is Matthew Barnes' first new work since his 2013 album Engravings. According to Pitchfork, Shrine, which was commissioned by Metal and produced in partnership with Boiler Room, is choreographed by Carmel Koster and performed by Owen Ridley Demonick.
"For me, the past six months has involved watching how bodies can fail and fix," Barnes says. "I became acutely aware of the power of forcing ourselves to look at its vulnerabilities and how we connect with them. In an age when human bodies are still regularly devalued, it feels cathartic to embrace the workings and design of them, even if it makes us uncomfortable and sometimes shameful. Being able to explore that has been enlightening."
The soundtrack is available now through Bandcamp and will come out on vinyl in late June through Barnes' label, Dense Truth.
