The new techno party will hit the city next month.
A new series called Format will launch in Toronto on August 10th.
The party is a collaboration between a number of local DJs who felt unsatisfied with what they saw as a lack of underground events in the bustling Toronto club scene. Format is meant to be "a party where we could be in our own comfort zone," says resident and coordinator Matt Kowall, adding that he hopes that Format will "educate Toronto's scene by booking forward-thinking techno artists."
The first act on the books for Format is UK-via-Berlin techno producer Shifted, who nicely embodies the group's own definition of techno. Taking place at Moniker Gallery, residents Measure Divide, Aerodroemme, Replikant and Catacomb will support.
The Toronto gig comes in the midst of a short North American tour for Shifted, which also includes an appearance at our own party at NYC's Output as well as a date alongside Demdike Stare in LA.
