Steve Porter, or Porterhouse, is the Boston producer and DJ who has taken clubworld by storm. Jumpin’ from continent to continent, playing from the darkest and dingiest clubs to the most exotic of locations, his career has been on the ascension since releasing his debut artist album “Homegrown.” With the upcoming Love Parade in his native country of America, RA caught up with Steve to discuss his Love Parade experiences both in the U.S and further afield and what he has coming up within the next few months.

How excited are you to be playing in North America’s version of the Love Parade?

I actually attended the first San Francisco love parade last year as a spectator and thought it was awesome. It was a trip to see how diverse the floats were, ranging from huge flatbed trucks to little lawnmower trailer floats. After the parade finished up I went over to club 1015 for my Love Parade after party set. It was such a rockin' night.

Have you been to any of the different Love Parade’s around the world? Is it different? Is the mood the same?

I played at the Budapest love parade last year and it was absolutely insane. Over a million people were gathered for it and every float was enormous. I believe it was about 30 or so floats that all paraded down one of the main streets until they all parked in Victory Square. After all of the floats were parked the festival continued well into the night with each float pumping its own music. Though it was much larger in scale to that of San Francisco parade, I'd say that both parades carried the same type of positive energy.

The Love Parade and Woodstock have the same essence, same vibe; two events that bring love and peace; colorful and open-minded people together in one location, with a massive party and some of the most popular entertainers of their time. Do you see any correlations between this and Woodstock?

Most definitely; it's Woodstock on wheels with a bit more electronic music.

Do you think the parade will open or has opened the eyes of those that haven’t paid attention to dance culture? Do you think this event will eventually revitalize the presence of dance music in mainstream culture in America?

I think the parade definitely stands as a symbol of growth of dance music in America and will most certainly broaden the awareness amongst those who may have not payed much attention to it previously. It may open up the doors of creativity in other cities as well; it would be fantastic to see another U.S city do the same.

Finally, can you give RA a heads-up on anything to keep an ear out for, or anything else on the horizon for you in 2005?

I've had quite a ridiculous schedule this year but in my free time I'll be compiling the first Porterhouse compilation this winter for a spring release. I'm really looking forward to it.
