Textures Vol 1 mixed by Gene Farris

  • 'Textures' is the first release on the Farris Wheel Limited label, with the main man showcasing ten tracks from his own vinyl as part of a collection of West Coast grooves. It's ideal as a warm-up for a house night out. That said, it takes a while to get going - starting on a deep vibe with Roomsa's 'Someday', then Farris's own remix of Lowend's 'Do You Like Robots', which goes on a bit too long. Stick with it though, as the mix gains momentum with two fine vocal Roomsa numbers ('Reason Why' and 'Dance All Night'). Now we're really grooving, with some squelchy funk from Greens Keepers and an ultra cool Miguel Migs take on Farris's 'Black Satin'. The implausibly named Glenn Underground supplies an extravagant keyboard solo for Boo Williams' 'Dark Jazz' as the collection closes strongly. Good for US house fans, this, but not ideal for those new to the genre.
