Clatterbox - Desolate Void

  • Electro's a bit like a rusting Deleorean these days. It still looks pretty cool, but it's also a reminder that the future never quite ends up as cool as you thought it would. (We're still somehow waiting on jetpacks.) The wonder inherent in the genre hasn't lost its luster for Clatterbox, however. The veteran producer turns in a lovingly backward looking EP for Frustrated Funk, which sits somewhere in between experimental electro and just plain experimental. The latter is covered by all three parts of "Desolate Void." In between the intro and outro, "Genetic Code" and "Data Stream" twitch and, in the latter case, even emotes a tiny bit. "Genetic Code" is the banger, with enough bleeping to keep Sleeparchive interested, while "Data Stream" fits lovely chords underneath its wiring, no doubt trying to lull you into thinking that everything will be OK if you simply submit to the machine.
