Stimming - Cheesecake

  • Stimming's got one of the most idiosyncratic and delicate sounds around, and these tracks sound exactly how you'd expect. He does sometimes release tracks that don't consist of enough else, though—ones that feel like the attention he's paying to the details has dampened the inspiration. I'm not sure whether "Cheesecake" is going for a gentle lilting feel, or an ethereal limbo. It ends up as both, which could definitely work, but it doesn't really go anywhere. "Snowflake" is better, thanks to a rich bass/lead line that surges and folds on itself, and slides in obscure directions. It's got a stronger constitution than "Cheesecake," but could still do with a bit more. Overall, you're left with the feeling that while no one else sounds quite like him, we also know he can do better.
