Incyde - Telophase EP

  • Incyde, judging by his debut track "Axis" on Hotflush's recent Back and 4th compilation, and from his debut EP Telophase, is all about a gritty, rough-and-tumble approach to bass music. "Telophase" is a kind of 130 BPM version of Autonomic-style drum & bass: an aggressive patter/crack is barely restrained, with lots of the track's energy being carried by undulations in the low frequencies and pulsations in the higher frequencies. "Sykle" and "Emerald" are woozier: The former is simultaneously eager and lazy—like an obese rat—and the latter is shinier with longing moans and escalating arpeggios. "Traverse," meanwhile, is nervous, rapid deep house. A patter of four kicks in a row, synths drenched in rhythmic effects (delay, beat-synced phasing) and a big chrome riff all make it seem like you're piloting a space cruiser.
