Kid Culture & Thomas Robson - So Addictive

  • Some of the best house music is so simple and spare and uncloying that it can seem to lack for ideas or, worse, start to stoke suspicion of being very cloying indeed. Not so Kid Culture & Thomas Robson's "So Addictive," which opens in splashy and punchy fashion and rides the same two traits straight down the middle. There's not a ton going on in terms of pushing or even tweaking an elemental sound, but there's a good amount of energy in it, especially when splotchy washes of guitar and suggestions of strings start to sound like the kind of stuff that turns the heads of Basement Jaxx. The B-Side "Starstruck" follows a similar cue, Jaxx-style heaving and weirdness included. It's hard to figure out what made this a secondary track, in fact, as the beat is bigger, the mix is more wild, the range of sounds covered is more vast—basically, it's more distinctive in every way. But however they fight it out between themselves, both tracks show Kid Culture & Robson (two producers from Amsterdam) as able handlers of a sound that won't be going away any time too soon.
