- I don't buy much vinyl anymore—for me, the advantages of digital outweigh the disadvantages—but this beautiful, limited run product, credits neatly hand-scratched between the runout groove, gave me a reason to. I feel like I've found a treasure in the back of a dusty antiques store. And it's not just the looks: Moodymann's "It's 2 Late 4 U and Me" had, as with many of his tunes, that same brown-paged aesthetic, apparently assembled from assorted curios sampled from crackling mid-20th century records. This edit pumps it up, with more growl, stomp and clatter; the texture remains. Vintage vocals breathe over shuddering distorted drums and a cantankerous engine of a bassline. While the original stops and starts, this is tuned to the dance floor, with more of a classic club flow. The opening pound drops into a more fragile coasting section, and then kicks back in later on. It's a record with plenty of meat, and even more character.
