Cavalier - A Million Horses EP

  • If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Agnes to survive the demise of the deep house revival. (Oh? It's already over? OK, then.) He's been proffering the stuff before it became fashionable, and he'll be doing it long after. A Million Horses is simply his latest equine-themed take on the genre, coming complete with five quick grooves that'll have DJs reaching for the loop button and an experimental dessert to boot. The (relatively) short track times will remind house heads of Nu Groove. So will the music contained therein. Agnes doesn't do much here aside from laying out a killer groove and ride it off into the sunset. "Napoletano"'s tinkling keys are a pleasure, though. So is the endless build of "Marwari (Better Days)" which withholds the kick for an achingly long three-and-a-half minutes. There's something here for just about anyone interested in '90s house styles, though. So feel free to dive in. It's gonna sound just as good in eight years anyway.
