- Over the last five years Spearhead records have quietly carved out their own niche in the drum & bass scene, gaining the respect of the industry with their brand of easygoing, deep liquid. With releases from artists such as Bungle, Lenzman and S.P.Y., the label maintains a consistently high quality. Nothing sums up their sound more effectively than their latest release from the label boss BCee. "Count the Stars" is a sublime piece of drum & bass. The trance-like synths masterfully weave in and out of Lingby's soft voice, their euphoria allowed to shine through by the pulsing mid ranges and simple heartbeat kick drum. In a trick typical of BCee, the whole song initially sounds like it is underwater, slowly emerging from the depths until it reaches its satisfyingly clear climax. On the flip, "Switchfoot" has warm surges of bass punctuated by clean jazzy piano chords and a slightly nasal vocal sample, making for one of the best liquid drum & bass 12-inches in a long time. As if it needed further cementing, based on this release alone, Spearhead is clearly at the top of the liquid label pile.
