Cafe Solaire Vol 3

  • This is the musical equivalent of a hot bath, and once you dip your toes in there’s plenty of laidback sounds to get horizontal with. It’s good to see that Clubstar have continued the precedent set by the first two volumes, picking up more underground talent and blending firstly a down tempo collection, then a mix of deep balearic beats. The overriding mood of the first disc is cool synth sounds with pianos drifting in and out of focus, slow beats and occasional random vocal snatches. All very relaxing, and then we move onto the more driving deep house set, with mellow chords and thicker bass sounds that become progressively more urgent as the mix unfolds. If you like Miguel Migs or Kevin Yost, this will be very much your bag. No track stands head and shoulders above the other – it’s all about the mood of the mix. That said, if pushed I’d select Razoof’s ‘Lambs Bread’ for my desert island. To sum up then, these are easy going beats, totally free of pretension.
