High On Life - East West Connection

  • Breaking down the 50 mark, Chillifunk’s head honcho’s (East West Connection) bring us their latest production, this soulful mix of tasty house. The smooth bass line is the initial main feature of ‘High On Life’. This provides the track with a great dance floor sound. The original mix features some soulful vocals provided by Daniel Vacchio to add to the funky house feel of the track, which has quite a solid impact on the overall vibe of this mix. This is where, if strong vocals aren’t your thing, the Dub really comes in handy. The overall input by pianist Neil Cowley (Fragile State) gives the original funky tune a nice classic feel. I was very keen to see (or in this case… hear) what the Lexicon Avenue boys had done to the original and their ‘House Heads’ remix is very impressive. I have a lot of respect for the trio’s production work and once again they continue to shine. Their deep progressive style turns this funky house number to a dark progressive club tune giving it an entire new angle. By using the vocal in a toned back way really helps the track break away from its soulful house roots. Their remix, which is a good 11 minutes, would fit very nicely in a nice building club set. This release is definitely worthy of the number 50 slot on the Chillifunk label and caters for a fair few genres.
