- There's a group of French producers who are threatening to oust the Dauphins of Distortion from their current throne in a revolutionary return to their country's ancien regime of house. Jef K and Chris Carrier are noteworthy conspirators in The Gathering, though the resolutely dependable Phil Weeks is also a key combatant against the noise which has been drowning out an active and commendable scene ever since Daft Punk bought leather jackets and Justice crossed the Waters of Nazareth.
The man behind Robsoul Recordings is no great innovator—his records owe evident dues to DJ Sneak's technique and work samples plucked from a familiar pool—though he is very good at what he does. Always jacking, always funky, rarely cornball. Variety? Not really, but that's OK when you consider almost any track from his discography could be selected practically by roulette and your set would be better off for it.
With that in mind, you know pretty much what to expect from "All Day Every Day." A funk loop, added bass, cowbell—the classic ingredients that Phil Weeks knows to blend adeptly. The vocal track about "spreading the house vibe, party time" spoken in a thick Gallic accent (presumably part of the revolutionary propaganda) is a bit much, but with an instrumental version included alongside a dubbed-out Ghetto mix, there's little reason not to follow Marianne all the way to the discotheque.
