Mind Rewind - Cass

  • After news of Fire Recordings shutting its doors (read more about in RA's previous interview with cass on the closure of Fire and launch of Sabotage here) and of Cass starting a new record label broke out, I was very curious to find out more had me quite excited very excited to see what would come of it. With the launch of any label, especially one with such hype around it, you would expect the first release to be that of a good one. It has already featured on a few rather sizable compilations including Dave Seaman's recent Global Underground [022] from Melbourne and the third Spundae Interpretations compilation (mixed by cass) and now, after much waiting the vinyl release of Mind Rewind... Side A - Mind Rewind Original Mix This mix is just pure class; it features some amazing sounds and is an exceptional peak time of night, club track. It features a rather organic and amazing growing electronic 'noise' that is somewhat unique. The timing of the bass-line that drives this track is spot on and the building sounds of it are just incredible. This is quite possibly the best solo production work to date that has passed through Cass’ music making hands. Side B - Mind Rewind Momu Remix The MOMU boys have been producing some very amazing ambient sounding releases over the past year and their take on Mind Rewind is one not to be overlooked. It does not steer too far from the original but gives Mind Rewind a much dirtier (in a good way) feel. Some nice adjustments and changes have been made that moves from the original in a very great way. In a world where new record labels are popping up every other day, Mind Rewind definitely puts Sabotage on the right foot. Overall, its solid release that you will definitely be hearing right the through to 2004 and with names like Sasha, Digweed, Cattaneo, Adam Freeland and many more already giving it a good run for its money ...there are no doubts that Mind Rewind does some serious dance floor damage. Also keep an ear out for Satoshi Tommie's very impressive, 'Mind Blaster Mix' which maybe out later this year.
